Defect State Modulation of TiO <sub>2</sub> Nanostructures for Photocatalytic Abatement of Emerging Pharmaceutical Pollutant in Wastewater Effluent

Rapid industrialization has resulted in a significant presence of pharmaceutical compounds aqueous effluents, and therefore, effluents must be effectively treated before discharging them to water bodies. The removal emerging pollutants wastewater using TiO2 via photocatalysis technique is limited because its wide bandgap (?3.2 eV). Herein, defect state modulation for degradation pollutant “antipyrine” under visible light irradiation investigated. A simple hydrothermal synthesis microspheres (average diameter ?2.94 ?m), followed by chemical reduction method formation defective-TiO2 NaBH4 an inert atmosphere different durations (3, 5, 8 h) used. Defective-TiO2 are utilized photocatalytic antipyrine illumination. Improved activity the samples observed due as well incorporation Ti3+, acting trap site resulting reduced electron-hole recombination. For practical application, continuous prototype reactor comprising particles immobilized over glass beads developed efficient operation observed. Excellent recyclability indicate promising future toward real-world treatment applications.
